MEMBERSHIP AND PRIVILEGES There shall be five classes of membership as follows: Active, candidate, honorary, emeritus, and corresponding. Qualification of Active Members Active members shall be surgeons who are actively engaged in ethical practice of plastic and reconstructive surgery, and reside in the State of Illinois. Active members shall be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons. An active member must be a licensed physician, except where a license is not required because such member is employed by a city, state or national governmental body. Qualification of Candidate Members Candidate members shall be surgeons who have met all the requirements of an active member and have met all of the training requirements for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc., except for the successful completion of the examination. A surgeon may continue as a candidate member for a period not to exceed five years from the date on which he/she first became a candidate member. Beyond this date, he/she is no. longer eligible. He/she may, however, ask for special consideration from the Board of Governors if he/she feels there are unusual circumstances. Qualification of Emeritus Members Emeritus members shall be members who have all of the qualifications of active members, except they shall no longer be actively engaged in the practice of plastic and reconstructive surgery. They shall have attained the age of 65 years or, in special circumstances, they may be awarded the status of emeritus members by the Board of Governors. Qualification of Honorary Members Honorary members shall be surgeons or other individuals who have achieved exceptional eminence and have distinguished themselves by their contribution to the science of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Qualification of Corresponding Members Corresponding members shall be surgeons who have met all of the requirements of active members, except that they need not reside in Illinois. They will have no voting privileges. Initiation Fee An initiation fee of $100 shall be required for each new member of any class of membership, except an honorary member, upon his/her election. Dues The annual fee of active and candidate members shall be $225. No annual fee shall be charged an honorary, emeritus, or corresponding member. Membership Application
